Confidential Clothing Brand

Location
Los Angeles, CA
Project Type

When our confidential clothing brand client moved into their new 116,000-square-foot, 7-floor building in the heart of Hollywood, Studio Other was engaged through architecture and design ODAA to outfit the entire space with all ancillary and custom furniture. The scope of custom furniture included: 500+ workstations, 60 private offices, planters, banquettes, kitchen islands, all meeting room & boardroom tables, a reception desk, and two executive desks for the company’s co-owners.

Because we provided the entire furniture scope for this space, we had the opportunity to carry an overarching theme through all pieces to create a cohesive story. The client wanted a space that exemplified their brand in every way with a neutral palette, rounded edges, textural and soft forms, and a residential feel – while solving problems encountered during their time in their previous space.

Drawing inspiration from the female form, desks in private offices have an hourglass shape while workstations feature an edge detail with a soft rounded radius edge on the bottom and soft touch laminate. Additionally, storage was vital to the client because they stored archives of old product, new product, and pieces they’re inspired by, so curved shelving units were incorporated.

We also came up with a millwork solution, saving them a significant amount of money with a furniture-based solution. In doing that, we had more control over materiality and were able to tie in even the smallest millwork detailing into the overarching theme of the space we were adhering to. We provided islands, receptions, planter dividers, and curved top-desk shelving – all with a soft curved form. The planters were made of powder-coated steel with embedded magnets to allow for easy access to the surrounding felt panels.

The brand’s technical design team works with textiles, handling samples, and sewing. Their previous setup involved many sets of rolling racks, which created a chaotic and disorganized environment. Therefore, we created counter height units with hanging rods on top, and end caps with powder-coated shelving storage to allow for cleaner display and organization. We coordinated the millwork to perfectly match the racks that surround the entire space.

The ancillary furniture we selected worked together with the custom furniture to weave the brand’s narrative and brand throughout every corner. Organic rounded shapes, lush textured fabrics, and warm neutrals established a high-end yet tranquil feel.
