Magnopus
In 2020, JK & Co engaged Studio Other to provide 148 custom workstations for Magnopus, a content-focused technology company that unites the physical and digital world with extraordinary experiences using AR, VR, virtual production, web and apps.
As the company expanded, they soon outgrew their space and upgraded to an 18,000-square-foot office in the historic PacMutual Building located in Downtown Los Angeles on 6th Street. A recognized local landmark and historic-cultural monument, the building was built in 1927 and holds timeless character, including eclectic original brick, grand windows and art deco features. Therefore, it was imperative to the client that the workstations we provided were simple but held the same personality as the building and blended the historic space with their fresh and forward-thinking company aesthetic.
To kick off the initial co-design process, Studio Other partnered with Clarvoyant to present furniture models to the team using Microsoft HoloLens, which brought a 1:1 hologram scale of the workstation to life in their new suite. Seeing the workstation flow in the space immediately sold the client on the vision.
JK & Co designed the space to be base camp-inspired—think urban meets Indiana Jones—with lush foliage, dark stone, rich wood tones, vintage accessories and warm leather elements. To complement the feel of the space, the height-adjustable workstation design incorporated walnut laminate and dark powder coated steel. A faux leather sling was added for bag storage along with safety glass with a powder steel frame and felt panels. The workstation solution captured the look and feel of the surrounding space while supplying every user with the necessary storage, privacy and flexibility needed from a workspace.
